06 September 2022 :

The Al-Shabaab on 4 September 2022 executed five men within Jilib town in Middle Jubba, Somalia, over claims that they have been sharing intelligence with the US Africa Command, a team that has been working closely with the Somali National Army [SNA] and other allied troops in the country.
It's not the first time, however, that the militants are targeting people believed to be spies of the US and the government of Somalia. Jilib town is the official headquarters of the Al-Qaeda-linked group and has proven difficult got security forces to dethrone them from the base.
Sources say the incident took place on 4 September but even after the execution, the deadly group did not immediately publish evidence on the allegations leveled against the victims.
Usually, the militants do not give the accused opportunity to defend themselves through lawyers.

03 August 2022 :

Somali-based militant group al-Shabab on 30 July 2022 executed seven men, including a soldier, in Somalia’s southwestern region of Bay.
The seven men were executed by firing squad in Buula Fulay in the Bay region in front of the public, as shown on a picture of the execution posted by Al-Shabab on their website.
Six of the executed men were accused of spying for the Somali government and the U.S.
Three of them were also accused of providing intelligence that led to the killing of senior al-Shabab leaders, Yusuf Jiis and Abdulkadir, who were targeted in U.S. airstrikes in 2020.
An al-Shabab judge told local spectators that the six men have confessed, without providing evidence. Al-Shabab courts don’t allow lawyers who can defend the accused.

15 February 2022 :

Al-Shabaab militants executed a Somali National Army soldier in a public square in Gambole area of Jowhar, the capital of Hir-Shabelle region, Somali Dispatch reported on 12 February 2022.
Abukar Isaq Isse, 24, was captured by al-Shabaab last year, and was recently executed as some Gambole residents were ordered to watch the shooting.
Al-Shabaab did not say when and where the soldier was captured, but claim he was a Somali government soldier.

03 February 2022 :

Al-Shabaab militants have announced the execution of a man who they accused of spying for the Ethiopia National Defense Forces [ENDF] working for AMISOM and the Southwest regional troops, Garowe reported 1 february 2022.
The militants are known to execute those deemed to be working with their enemies.
Al-Shabaab media reported that Nunow Sanweyne, 34, was executed in front of the locals at Bula-Fulay town in the Bay region of the South-West state.
Hundreds of civilians watched when he was being executed by the squad.
The Al-Shabaab insisted that the accused has been cooperating with the ENDF and Southwest regional troops by sharing intelligence on their whereabouts in previous months.
Most of the Ethiopian troops serving in the African Union Mission Forces in Somalia are stationed in the Southwest and parts af Jubaland. The troops are credited for the efficient fight against Al-Shabaab militants.

24 November 2022 :

A Somali military court has sentenced to death a police officer convicted of killing a civilian following an argument over a cigarette lighter, The East African reported on 24 November 2022.
Mohamed Abdulkadir Sheikh Ibrahim, a junior officer serving in South West, one of the five Federal Member States in Somalia, was booked for a firing squad for the murder he committed in April.
Ibrahim, who served in the police force in Afgoye town, 30 km southwest of Mogadishu, was found guilty by the court for the killing of Abdifatah Abdullahi Ali, a trader, on 25 April 2022.
Ibrahim reportedly stabbed Ali to death after the two argued over a cigarette lighter.
Ali’s relatives were present in the army court when Ibrahim was sentenced to face a firing squad as pronounced by Major Mohamed Abdi Mumin.

13 February 2022 :

Save the Children on 11 February 2022 called on Somali authorities to intervene after six teenage boys were sentenced by a military court for involvement with armed groups, with four receiving the death penalty.
The teenagers were arrested in October 2020 in Galkayo, in the Mudug region of Puntland state in Somalia, for alleged involvement with armed groups. Four of the boys were 15 at the time of the arrest.
A military court sitting in Galkayo, Somalia, on 31 January handed down the death penalty for four of the teenagers, aged 16 – 18, while the two others, aged 16, were sentenced to 30 and 20 years imprisonment, respectively.
The sentencing violates the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which Somalia ratified in 2015, and which codifies Somalia's commitments to protecting a child's rights to life, survival, and accords them appropriate legal protection.
Save the Children’s Country Director for Somalia, Mohamud Mohamed Hassan said:
"We are deeply concerned at these sentences. Sentencing adolescents to death and long-term imprisonment – regardless of their crime – does not work as a deterrent, and certainly isn’t in line with global standards to which Somalia has accepted. These boys deserve a chance at rehabilitation, and we urge the government to ensure justice.
"We urge the government of Puntland to strengthen enforcement and implementation of the Puntland Juvenile Justice Act, to protect and treat all children under the age of 18 in line with child rights standards.

15 December 2022 :

A military court in Mogadishu on 12 December 2022 sentenced a suspected al-Shabaab member to death amid the government stepped up operation against the group in south-central Somalia.
According to a statement by the court, Mohamed Abdulle Nur militant is proven to have been part of an attack on Mogadishu’s Adan Abdulle International Airport on 23 March last year.
Early last year, armed al-Shabaab fighters attacked an army base near the Somali capital’s international airport, killing at least five people, including two of the attackers.
Al-Shabaab has claimed the responsibility for the attack, saying it was behind the attack on the camp near Mogadishu airport. 
It also claimed to have fired mortars into the camp, where African Union (AMISOM) peacekeeping troops, United Nations and other international organizations are based.
The court ruling comes as Somali forces backed by local militias intensified operations against al-Shabaab fighters in southcentral regions.
The allied forces liberated dozens of towns.

12 November 2022 :

Somalia military court on 1 November 2022 executed by firing squad an Al-Shabaab operative in a public square in Galkayo, the capital of the Mudug region.
Jirau Abdullahi Ali was sentenced to death by the armed forces court in 2020 after he was found guilty of committing several assassinations and bombings in the Mudug capital. He was also convicted of killing the controversial Muslim cleric, Sheikh Abdiweli Ali Elmi Yare, in 2018.
Present to witness the execution were senior officers drawn from the military court and authorities from the Galkayo administration.

10 November 2022 :

The Somalia military court on 3 November 2022 executed two Al-Shabaab convicts as part of the ongoing fight against the militants who control large swathes of rural central and southern Somalia, making it a total of 10 people to be killed within two weeks in the Horn of Africa nation.
Last week, the court executed three militants who were convicted of various crimes, including coordination of attacks across the country. The execution was carried out by the famous firing squad, a contingent within the Somali National Army [SNA] which is given such responsibilities.
According to the military court, the two militants were executed having been convicted of killing security personnel.
Execution has been part of the strategy to eliminate the militants from the country, but they still dominate most parts of the country including northeastern Kenya.
Those killed on 3 November morning are Abdulle Ahmed Mudey, 24, and Omar Adan Mohamed, 29.
They were convicted for assassinating two security officers in 2019 and the military court has turned down their appeals, warranting their immediate execution by firing squad. This brings the number of militants executed in recent days to 10.

09 November 2022 :

Somalia's military court on 31 October 2022 executed three Al-Shabaab hitmen in the latest move which comes just a day after the militants raided downtown Mogadishu, killing over 100 people while injuring scores, in an attack that has been widely condemned globally. The three Al-Shabaab hitmen were convicted of attacking and killing 15 innocent civilians between 2018 and 2020, and their appeals were rejected by the same court. Reports indicate that the convicts were executed by the Somali National Army firing squad early on 31 October in Mogadishu, the latest series of executions carried out by the government against militants. Hardcore criminals in the country are usually tried and executed by the military court.
Those executed were Hassan Ali Moallim Barre who was convicted for detonating a car bomb in the Wadajir market in November 2018 which killed 12, Nur Ibrahim Mahad-Alle was found guilty of delivering an IED that killed Mahaas deputy mayor in 2019 and Isak Keerow Adan, a grenade thrower for killing two in Suuq Ba’ad and Weydow in 2020.

07 November 2022 :

Somali officials on 26 October 2022 executed two ISIS militants convicted for carrying out assassinations on behalf of the al-Shabab terrorist group, marking the second execution of Islamist militants in a week.
The two men went before a firing squad at Mogadishu’s General Kahiye Police Academy after a military appellate court upheld a lower court ruling to execute the convicted militants.
According to court papers, Aden Mohamed Ali Mohamud first joined Al-Shabab in 2010 but later defected to ISIS in 2015, while Mohamed Ali Mohamed Farah joined ISIS after watching the group's propaganda via encrypted messages on the social media app Telegram.
Military prosecutor General Abdullahi Kamey told the court that the two were involved in a spate of killings of civilians and government officials in central Somalia and the capital Mogadishu.

27 October 2022 :

Somali military court on 24 October 2022 executes by firing squad two Al-Shabab operatives in Mogadishu after being found guilty of murdering several people.
Blindfolded, hand-cuffed, and tied to poles, Shuayb Abdullahi Mohamed and Saadaq Abdi Jabar were shot dead in a police academy early in the morning.
Shuayb Abdullahi Mohamed was convicted for killing 4 people including 3 security officers, between 2017 and 2018. Sadaq Abdijabar Omar was convicted of killing a soldier in 2019.

02 February 2022 :

A military court in Somalia’s Puntland state has sentenced four men to death and two others to jail terms following a trial that substantiated their links to Al-Shabaab militants, Garowe online reported on 1 February 2022.
The military judge said the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt that the six men who are in their youthful years have been working closely with Al-Shabaab militants to execute terror activities in Puntland state.
According to the judge, the militants were responsible for assassinations in Galkayo between 2017 and 2021 and served as Al-Shabaab hit squad.
Those subjected to the trial include Farhan Faisal, Abdullahi Faysal, Barkhad Awil and Liban Aden who will face the firing squad while Abdikani Farhan and Abdirahman Awil slapped with 30 and 20 years of imprisonment respectively, the court said.

22 November 2022 :

The Somali military court on 17 November 2022 executed two former government soldiers by firing squad for murders committed in Kismayo, the administrative capital of Jubbaland regional state.

21 November 2022 :

Somali military court executed two former government soldiers in Kismayo on November 19, 2022 after they were convicted of killing a civilian and another soldier, the regional state media reported.
Deputy Chairman of the Jubbaland Military Court, Bashir Mohamud Hareed, stated that Wayrah Khalif Yusuf, 25, was found guilty of murdering Halimo Ali Robow in November 2020, while Yusuf Hussein Abdi killed former government soldier Abdullahi Ali Suli in November 2021.
The two men were sentenced to death on June 29, 2022, according to a military tribunal.
Kismayo is the administrative capital of Jubbaland regional state.

07 September 2022 :

Somaliland government on 6 September 2022 executed four who had been convicted of wanton killing earlier.
A firing squad carried out the executions at Mandheera of the Sahel region early Tuesday morning.
Somaliland is a de facto state in the Horn of Africa, considered internationally to be part of Somalia.
The four included two officers of the Somaliland national army, one of them a lieutenant colonel. The lieutenant was found guilty of killing a young woman who was a civil servant in government employ. The reason of killing, it was decided, was borne out of irresponsibility as the officer was to have been annoyed by the woman parking her car in front of his house. The killing happened a stone's throw from a compound housing the greatest number of regional and district courtrooms in the capital of the Republic of Somaliland, Hargeisa, and another stone's throw from the Presidency and the Attorney-General's office.
The other officer peppered his commanding officer with bullets, emptying the part of a magazine on him, following a stiff disciplinary action the commanding officer took against the NCO the evening before.
A fifth escaped death miraculously.
Also convicted of killing another man, the lucky escapee was untied from the execution post following a last-minute reprieve based on an agreement struck between the two families of the killed and the killer.

30 August 2022 :

Four ISIS members failed to have their death sentence overturned in the Appeals Court in the Puntland state of Somalia, GAROWE ONLINE reported on 19 August 2022.
The four, Jama Adan Abdirahman Tusbahlay, the head of the terror cell, Ayub Omar Shire, Abdullahi Salaad Bos alias Mahoonge and Mohamud Abshir Musa had tried to convince the Eastern Court of Appeal to quash the death sentence which had been issued by the military court. Documents availed to the media established that the four were responsible for the planned explosions and murders in Bosaso and sentenced them to death by firing squad.
They are now set to face the firing squad in line with the laws of the country.
Evidence provided in the court indicated that the four militants had been coordinating attacks within Puntland, one of the most stable states in Somalia.
The convicts are also on record for admitting the charges labeled against them in various video interviews with some admitting that they worked with the Al-Shabaab team in the country.
Abdirahman Shirwac Isse's case was adjourned because he was absent from the court but he was among those who were sentenced to death.

25 July 2022 :

Somalia’s Military court on 20 July 2022 sentenced a Military Soldier accused of murdering a civilian to death, SONNA reported.
Mohamed Adan Mohamed Ali “Gadudow” was a military soldier from the Somalia National Army.
On 29 April 2022, Said Hassan Shikhow was killed at the Police Orphanage Center while he was seeking aid distributed to the needy community.
The Military court found the accused guilty of the murder, sentencing him to death.

09 June 2022 :

A court in Baidoa town on 7 June 2022 executed a man for killing a businesswoman and then dumping her body in a sewage hole in his house.
Family members found the woman’s body on 5 June.
The court ruled that Hassan Mohamed Hassan, aka Goomey, stabbed Amina Mohamud to death in Baidoa, the interim capital of Southwest State.
Officials from the Southwest, army officers, relatives of the deceased, and the perpetrator were present at the courthouse, where the deceased's family and her children demanded execution.
After the verdict was read, security forces carried out the death sentence with a firing squad.
The Minister of Justice of the Southwest State of Somalia, Sheikh Hassan Lugbuur, said that anyone who commits a crime would be brought to justice.

29 March 2022 :

Puntland state in northeastern Somalia on 27 March 2022 executed a government soldier accused of killing a fellow soldier.
According to a statement by Puntland’s military court, Mohamed Abdulkadir Muse (Afdheere), a member of the Puntland Maritime Police Force (PMPF) was executed by firing squad in Garowe town of Nugal region.
A military court in the state has found Afdheere guilty of deliberately killing Botan Mohamed Botan.
Afdheere was sentenced to death on 3rd February this year.

26 March 2022 :

Galmudug Military Court on 24 March 2022 sentenced five members of Galmudug's Police, Army and Paramilitary Forces to death.
The court sentenced Eid Abdi Ali, Abshir Mohamud Jama, Abdi Kafi Ali Abdullahi, Adnan Ali Salad and Maslah Abdi Omar to death.
The court sentenced Mohamed Qaline Warsame to five years in prison for being involved in the assassination of Muhiyadin Abdullahi Ali in Galkayo.
These men that were convicted were all from different branches of the Somalia’s Armed forces, they have killed civilians and other army members in Galkayo.

16 February 2022 :

A Puntland military court has sentenced two men to death by firing squad and two others to long jail terms for the plotting and subsequent killing of prominent Somali journalist Jamal Farah Aden, Garowe online reported on 14 February 2022.
Adde Abdullahi Mohamed and Abdiqani Saleban Jama (Saylor) were both sentenced to death by firing squad after they confessed to the murder.
Abdiqani Saylor told the court that he would be paid $ 50 for each murder he executed, including that of the slain journalist.
Hassan Jama Mohamed and Mohamed Ali Ahmed (Qaroon) were sentenced to 25 and 15-year prison terms respectively for being accomplices to the murder of Jamal.
Jamal was killed in Galkayo on 1 March 2021 by members of Al-Shabaab.
The group claimed responsibility for the killing of the journalist whom they accused of being a member of Puntland intelligence and was working to turn members of the public against the group.

19 January 2022 :

The military court of the Somali Armed Forces on 4 January 2022 sentenced to death a soldier for the murder of two siblings Zakariye and Sowdo.
On 2 December 2021 the two siblings were killed at night in Mogadishu at the Dambe intersection and two Somali National Army soldiers were charged in connection with the case.
Soldiers in police vehicle opened fire to open the road which was busy and crowded.
The chairman of the court martial, Colonel Hassan Ali Nur Shuute said Abdi Wael Maalim Aden (Kanidid) was sentenced to death by firing squad, while Dayah Nur Abdi Adan was sentenced to one year in prison.
Zakariye and Sowdo’s relatives and the two soldiers were present at the courthouse.

17 January 2022 :

A former Somali Police Force officer was executed on 10 January 2022 for killing a civilian in Gedo region.
The officer was from Darawish forces and was sentenced to death by the Court Martial, Division 27, for killing a motorcycle driver in the district of Luuq, Gedo region.

16 January 2022 :

A former Somali National Army officer was executed by firing squad on the morning of 11 January 2022 for killing a civilian in Belet Xaawo district in Gedo region.
Confirming the order, the Deputy Attorney General of the Court Martial, Division 27, Major General Mohamed Abdulkadir Mohamed, said that Abdikadir Farah Dhaqane (Nune) was found guilty of killing the unarmed civilian and that he had been sentenced to death this morning.
ùAbdikadir Farah Dhaqane (Nune), was executed for killing the late Mowlid Bashe Omar, who was formerly operating a car mechanic in Beledhawo town.
Present to witness the execution were officers attached to the 27th Division of the Court Martial, relatives of both the slain soldier and the deceased civilian and members of the public.
