28 October 2008 :
the Philippine government submitted a request asking Saudi Arabian authorities to repatriate the remains of overseas Filipino worker Jenifer Bedoya who was beheaded last October 14, 2008. "Right after the execution, we submitted a note verbale to the Minister of Foreign Affairs requesting for the repatriation of the body," Esteban Conejos, the DFA’s Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs said. This, despite appeals filed by the lawyer hired by the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah to represent Bedoya before the Emir of Makkah, the Governor of Jeddah, and the Minister of Interior. Conejos explained that requesting for the repatriation of the body is not that easy. "I don’t want to raise expectations here because based on the practice in Saudi Arabia, we have not been successful in the past," he said. Nevertheless, the Philippine government still attempted to request for Bedoya’s remains be repatriated to Manila.(Sources: Abs-cbnNews.com, 20/10/2008)
