IRAN - Omid Sadeghi Souri Executed in Tabriz on May 10
May 10, 2026: May 10, 2026 - IRAN. Omid Sadeghi Souri Executed in Tabriz on May 10
Omid Sadeghi Souri, a 26-year-old Turkish prisoner, was executed in Tabriz Central Prison at dawn on May 10, 2026.
A source told IHR: “Omid Sadeghi Souri was arrested around four years ago on charges of murder during a street fight. Since being informed by the Sentence Implementation Office around 20 days ago that his execution would soon be carried out, he had been in an extremely fragile psychological state. Omid constantly cried and said: ‘I am very young and I am afraid of death.’ He insisted that the killing had been completely accidental and considered himself innocent.”
The source added: “During those 20 days, he stayed awake every night out of fear that they would come for him at dawn to carry out the execution. He would walk in the ward corridor or sit in a corner and cry. On Saturday, before they transferred him to solitary confinement, he shouted loudly in the ward: ‘I am innocent, help me so I won’t be executed.’ Other prisoners also tried to speak with the prison guard, but it was useless. Omid was so devastated that he did not even want to see his family for a final visit and settled only for a brief phone call.”
At the time of writing, domestic media in Iran have not reported Omid Sadeghi Souri’s execution.
