His excellency the President of Zambia, Rupiah Bwezani Banda, pardoned and commuted the sentences of 53 prisoners on death row at Mukobeko prison, Kabwe.
A Sylhet court on May 6, 2025 sentenced three individuals, including the son of the victim, to death for the brutal 2011 murder of veteran lawyer Shamsul Islam Chowdhury. Another accused in the case received a three-year prison sentence.
