The Montagnard Foundation (MFI) accused Vietnam of having executed three members of a Protestant church in the Central Highlands and said others were arrested in several security operations.Foreign ministry spokeswoman Phan Thuy Thanh denied the information. According to the US-based rights group, "At the 'secret' military camp at Buon Cu Mblim, Krong Ana district, Dak Lac province, Vietnamese soldiers executed three Degars (ethnic minorities)" on February 27.
"After they had executed these three, the soldiers placed the bodies outside of the camp and summoned approximately 100 villagers to look at the dead victims and told the villagers: 'This is how you are going to end up if you follow Ksor Kor and the Montagnard Foundation.'" Hanoi considers Dega Protestantism -- a form of evangelical Christianity followed by many hill tribe people in the Central Highlands -- as a rallying mechanism for US-based exiles seeking an independent state for the Montagnard ethnic minority.
