The European Union called on Vietnam to improve its human rights record as the communist nation's parliament lashed out at criticism from the European Parliament and the US Congress.
Other issues raised included prisoners of conscience, the use of the death penalty, the need for greater transparency in the judicial system, and the treatment of ethnic minorities.
