The Osaka Detention House announced on March 3 that Seijiro Yamano died due to multiple organ failure.
According to the detention house, Yamano complained of abdominal pain after breakfast on March 2. He was subsequently put under observation.

The director of the Osaka Detention House commented, “We will continue to strive to provide appropriate health management for our inmates.”

Yamano had been held at the Osaka Detention House for approximately 43 years, including his pretrial detention period.
With the death of Yamano, the total number of death row inmates nationwide now stands at 102.
