Dang Xuan Hai and Tran Van Thuong, both aged 38, were put to death by firing squad at dawn in the Vietnamese capital's Cau Nga execution site.
The pair had been sentenced to death in June 2001 for trafficking 1.4 kg of heroin from the north-western province of Lai Chau, which borders both China and Laos, to Hanoi.
Hai was a former policeman based in Lai Chau's Tuan Giao district.
