A Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman said the Vietnamese government regretted the reaction from the Canadian government on the execution of Nguyen Thi Hiep. The Vietnamese Government wished to continue the cooperative ties with Canada on the basis of equality, mutual respect, and mutual benefit, for the long-term interests of the two peoples. The spokesman said the responsible Vietnamese authority had received the information relating to the case forwarded by Canadian agencies, but after serious consideration, the information was deemed to have failed to provide a sufficient legal basis for the case of Nguyen Thi Hiep to be reheard.
