KUWAIT: FIVE CONVICTED MURDERERS EXECUTED AFTER DEATH SENTENCES UPHELD BY HIGHEST COURTS

The public prosecution announced that it had supervised on June 20, 2026 evening the execution of death sentences against five men convicted of premeditated murder and other serious crimes at Central Prison, after the convicts were afforded full constitutional guarantees of defense and appeal throughout all stages of investigation and trial, including a request for reconsideration filed by one of them.
The sentences, upheld by the court of appeal and the court of cassation, were carried out by hanging after HH the Amir ratified the rulings.
Among those executed was Ali Manahi Mefreh Al-Subaie, a Kuwaiti national convicted in connection with a 2021 case for the premeditated murder of a police officer carried out with prior intent and lying in wait, attempted murder under the same circumstances and possession of an unlicensed Kalashnikov rifle and ammunition.
Also executed was Hassan Salem Ayesh Al-Rashidi, a Kuwaiti national, convicted in a 2023 case of kidnapping by force with intent to kill, premeditated murder with prior intent and lying in wait, unlawfully detaining the victim, possessing narcotics and possessing an unlicensed pistol and ammunition.
Mahmoud Hamdy Ahmed Hassan, an Egyptian national, was executed after being convicted in a 2024 case of kidnapping a woman by force and threat with intent to rape her, indecent assault, rape by force and threat, unlawful detention and threatening the victim with harm to suppress her resistance.
Ahmed Mohammed Qate Obeid, an illegal resident, was executed following his conviction in a 2021 case for premeditated murder. The fifth man, Maleh Al-Hamidi Mefiz Al-Harshani, a Kuwaiti national, was convicted in a 2017 case of premeditated murder carried out with prior intent and lying in wait.
The public prosecution said the men had been found guilty of murder, betrayal, treachery and grave sin, driven by motives that included killing for hire, breaching bonds of friendship and trust, sexual assault and a fatal attack on a teacher inside a school prayer hall, in a crime that violated the sanctity of an educator, a place of worship and a woman’s person. The prosecution described the crimes as reflecting deep-rooted savagery and a disregard for the sanctity of life, and said the punishment now carried out should stand as a deterrent to anyone harboring similar intentions.
