IRAN - Hengaw report on attacks on Kurds
IRAN - Hengaw report on attacks on Kurds
IRAN - Hengaw records 50 post-ceasefire IRGC attacks on Kurdish opposition parties

June 17, 2026 - IRAN. Hengaw records 50 post-ceasefire IRGC attacks on Kurdish opposition parties

The Islamic Republic of Iran has carried out at least 50 missile and suicide-drone attacks against the headquarters, camps, and residential compounds of Kurdish-Iranian opposition parties based in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq since the ceasefire that ended the 40-day war involving Iran, the United States, and Israel. The latest attack took place on Tuesday, June 16, when Kurdish opposition party positions were once again targeted following reports of a new agreement between Iran and the United States.

Verified data recorded by the Statistics and Documentation Center of Hengaw Organization for Human Rights shows that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its affiliated proxy militias have continued their cross-border campaign against Kurdish opposition parties despite the ceasefire officially announced on April 8, 2026.

The most recent strike, carried out on June 16, marked the 50th attack since the ceasefire and the first following the latest agreement between Iran and the United States. The target was the civilian camp of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI) in Zewe Spi, near the city of Koya.

Human casualties and identified victims
According to Hengaw's legal assessment, the attacks have specifically targeted densely populated camps and residential areas housing the families of Peshmerga members. At least three female Peshmerga fighters and one 17-year-old civilian have been killed, while at least 20 others have sustained serious injuries.
The identities of those killed have been verified as follows:
- Ghazal Mawlan, a female Peshmerga fighter and member of Komala Party of Kurdistan.
- Neda Miri, a female Peshmerga fighter and member of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI)
- Samira Allahyari, a female Peshmerga fighter and member of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI)
- Shahin Azarbarzin, a 17-year-old civilian and child of a Peshmerga family affiliated with the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan.

At least 20 additional Peshmerga members have been wounded in the attacks, including 14 members of the Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK).

Prior to the ceasefire, the same headquarters and camps were targeted 167 times during the 40-day war. Those attacks resulted in the deaths of five Peshmerga fighters — Jalal Rashidi, Esmail Rahimi, Omid Veisi, Eqbal Salehi, and Fakhraddin Moradi — and left at least 30 others injured.

Statistical breakdown of attacks
The 50 attacks recorded since the ceasefire were distributed as follows:
Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI): 23 attacks
Komala Party of Kurdistan: 11 attacks
Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK): 8 attacks
Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan: 6 attacks
Communist Party of Iran (Komala): 1 attack
Khabat Organization of Iranian Kurdistan: 1 attack

In addition to targeting and severely damaging residential areas housing refugee families, the Islamic Republic of Iran and its affiliated militias have directly targeted schools, medical facilities, and libraries. The systematic bombardment of schools attended by children, the destruction of healthcare centers treating civilians and the wounded, and attacks on libraries constitute clear violations of the Additional Protocols to the Geneva Conventions. These attacks provide further evidence of the Islamic Republic's strategy of cross-border repression aimed at political opponents and the destruction of the civilian, educational, and humanitarian infrastructure supporting Kurdish political refugees in the Kurdistan Region.

Hengaw Organization for Human Rights emphasizes that the continuation of these attacks following the ceasefire between Iran, the United States, and Israel demonstrates that Iranian authorities are exploiting the reduction in regional tensions as an opportunity to intensify political retaliation against Kurds and pursue the physical elimination of Kurdish political refugees.
