PAKISTAN: SC UPHOLDS DEATH PENALTY FOR MAN WHO KILLED HIS FATHER

The Supreme Court of Pakistan on April 13, 2026 dismissed an appeal against the death sentence of a convict, who had murdered his biological father and severely injured stepmother and three siblings over the transfer of a portion of property to his second wife and children.
A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Muhammad Hashim Khan Kakar, announced the judgment on a jail petition against the order/judgment passed by the Lahore High Court, Multan Bench, on October 14, 2025 in Ghulam Mustafa, petitioner(s) versus the state, respondent(s).
Justice Salahuddin Panhwar, Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim were the two other members of the bench. The court heard the case on March 10, 2026 and dismissed the appeal of the petitioner and upheld the verdict of the high court.
“Having conducted an independent evaluation of the record, we are firmly of the view that the impugned judgment of the High Court is free from any legal error or defect,” says a three-page judgment authored by Justice Kakar.
The court held that the High Court provided sound and well-reasoned judgment in upholding the convictions and sentences, and under the specific circumstances of this case, the confirmation of the death penalty was legally justified. “We find ourselves in complete agreement with the High Court’s findings and see no justification to alter or set them aside,” the court held.
