ZAMBIA: WIFE KILLER TO HANG

09 March 2012 :

In Zambia, a Mufumbwe farmer has been sentenced to death for hacking his wife to death and burying the body in a shallow grave he dug in the family maize field.
The death sentence comes on the heels of condemnation of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and the need for the police to effectively deal with perpetrators of violence against women.
High Court Judge Isaac Kamwendo, sitting in Solwezi, handed down the sentence on Eden Dinala, 41, who brutally hacked his wife, Carolyn Zulu with a hoe. The incident happened on December 14, 2009.
Dinala hacked his 37-year-old wife repeatedly at the back of her head after luring her to their maize field and buried her there to conceal the killing.
In delivering Judgment, Mr Justice Kamwendo said the evidence from the witnesses was credible and reflected the version of events that occurred on that fateful day.
Dinala admitted hitting his wife with a hoe and that he murdered her out of jealousy and anger.
