YEMEN: STATE SECURITY COURT GIVES DEATH PENALTY TO TWO REBELS

19 October 2009 :

Yemen’s state security court sentenced two al Houthi militants to death.
“They were found guilty of forming an armed gang to fight against security forces in Bani-Hushaish district in 2008,” said Ridhwan al Namir, the court judge. “They killed a large number of army and security personnel and citizens, including women and children, and blew up military vehicles.”
Ten others were sentenced to jail terms ranging from one year to 12 years. The judge justified the verdict by saying the dozen prepared for their attacks by procuring “all the necessary equipment, including light and heavy weaponry, ammunition and other sorts of explosives”.
