USA - Alabama. Judge Brad Mendheim sentenced Ryan Clark Petersen to death.

25 March 2017 :

Houston County Judge Brad Mendheim sentenced Ryan Clark Petersen, 27, White, to death. The sentence is what a jury recommended on Jan. 6 (see), by a 10-2 vote, after convicting Petersen of 3 counts of capital murder in December for killing 3 people at a nightclub in 2012. The recommendation came after the jury convicted Petersen of capital murder in the shooting of three people on August 10, 2012. Another person was wounded in the incident. Petersen is charged with capital murder in the shooting deaths of Tiffani Paige Grissett, 31, Cameron Eubanks, 20, and Thomas Robins Jr., 59. According to police, Petersen was kicked out of a nightclub after a dispute with an employee, went to his truck, shot Eubanks, the son of the owner, outside the club and then re-entered and shot Grissett and Robins to death. Petersen shot another man, Scotty Russell, 33, who survived his injuries. Defense attorneys for Petersen argued during the guilt phase of the trial that Petersen was not responsible for his actions due to mental impairment and large consumption of alcohol. They argued during the sentencing phase that Petersen's life should be spared due to several mitigating factors including his mental condition.
