UNITED KINGDOM. BRITAIN THANKS THAI POLICE BUT OPPOSES DEATH FOR TOURIST'S KILLERS

02 February 2006 :

Britain's Foreign Office thanked the Thai authorities for finding the two fishermen who raped and murdered a British student, but insisted it opposed their death sentence.
A Foreign Office spokesman said: "We are grateful to the Thai Police for all their hard work with this case.
"The government opposes the death penalty in all circumstances and has made this clear."
Earlier in the day, a Thai court sentenced Bualoy Kothisit, 23, and Wichai Sonkhaoyai, 24, to death for the rape and murder of 21-year-old Katherine Horton. The body of Horton, who was in Thailand on a backpacking break, was found floating in Lamai Bay on the island of Koh Samui on January 2.
