TEXAS EXECUTES MAN CONVICTED OF MURDERING 3-YEAR-OLD

12 January 2007 :

Carlos Granados, a man convicted of murdering his girlfriend's 3-year-old son, was put to death by lethal injection in Texas' first execution of the year.
Granados, 36, was convicted for killing Anthony Jiminez with a large kitchen knife during an argument with the boy's mother, Katherine Jiminez, on September 13, 1998. The mother was stabbed nearly 30 times, but survived and testified against Granados.
Granados was the 380th person put to death in Texas, which leads the nation in executions, since it resumed capital punishment in 1982. He was the first of five people scheduled for execution this month in the state. So far, 13 more executions have been scheduled in 2007.
