SRI LANKA: FIVE SENTENCED TO DEATH OVER 1999 MURDER

in Sri Lanka, the Monaragala High Court sentenced to death 5 people over a shooting incident in 1999 in which 2 people were killed.
High Court judge Gihan Kulutanga issued the death sentence after the five suspects were found guilty for murder and various other crimes.
The shooting incident had taken place during an election rally held at Bibile, Galkumbura. The five suspects had opened fire targeting the rally.
A police officer and a member of the Civil Defence Force are among the men sentenced to death. The two victims were H.M Dayarathna and H.M Premarathna, and the five convicts are Chamila Disanayake, W. Udayakantha, Ashoka Punchihewa, H.M Anjula and P.M Amarasiri.
