SAUDI ARABIA: 90-YEAR-OLD KILLER SAVED FROM GALLOWS

a 90-year-old Saudi Arabian woman from the southern province of Asir who was sentenced to death for killing the daughter of her husband’s brother after a heated argument in 2003 was pardoned by the victim’s relative.
The pardon was announced at a meeting of tribes from the victim’s town of Tareeb and other parts of Asir at the request of crown prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz, Alwatan daily said.
“The tribes accepted Prince Sultan’s mediation and the victim’s relatives agreed to pardon the killer… The prince personally interfered in this case and will pay diya from his own pocket.”
The paper did not say how the woman murdered her relative or whether she has been set free.
