10 June 1999 :

On June 10, the Supreme Court upheld the verdicts of the Criminal Court and the Appeals Court in sentencing Sompong Boonrith and Samak Toopbuchakorn for the abduction and murder in 1986 of Sherry Ann Duncan, an Amerasian girl who was then 16 years old. Sompong was found guilty of the murder and must face capital punishment, the court ruled, while the death sentence imposed on Samak was commuted because of his confession. The 2 were charged with possessing an unregistered firearm, doing harm to Miss Duncan, strangling her to death, and stealing a watch and a gold necklace.
