MARYLAND (USA): HOUSE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE APPROVES DEATH PENALTY REPEAL BILL

The House Judiciary Committee approved (14-8) the repeal of the death penalty in Maryland.
The measure will go before the whole House of Delegates next week. The Maryland Senate has approved the same legislation two days ago. The legislation was submitted by Governor Martin O’Malley himself, so he is expected to sign the law whenever it comes to his desk.
The state has not executed a prisoner since 2005.
