In Malaysia, a fish monger from India was sentenced to death by the High Court in Shah Alam for trafficking in 2.267 kilogrammes of Ketamine at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), two years ago.
Judge Datuk Ahmadi Asnawi handed down the sentence after concluding that the defence had failed to raise a reasonable doubt on the case against Sadhik Amin Abdul Aleef, 39.
The judge was also satisfied that Sadhik Amin was aware of the drugs in his possession and that his act of bringing it from India constituted trafficking.
"Therefore I find that the prosecution has proven the case beyond a reasonable doubt and the accused is hereby sentenced to death, the mandatory sentence for the offence," he said.
Sadhik Amin was charged under Section 39B (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for the mandatory death sentence, with committing the offence at the KLIA about 2.40 pm on Feb 17, 2010.
