KAZAKHSTAN: NO NEED TO AMEND THE CONSTITUTION FOR THE RATIFICATION OF THE OPTIONAL PROTOCOL

The Constitutional Council of Kazakhstan decided that there was no need to amend the Constitution for the ratification of the Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, aimed at abolishing the death penalty, Law Firm Azizov & Partners reported on 21 December 2020.
At the same time, the Council noted that after the ratification of the Optional Protocol, the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan must be brought in line with its requirements.
The head of state appealed to the Constitutional Council in view of the upcoming ratification by Kazakhstan of the Optional Protocol.
