IRAN - Special meeting of the Human Rights Council on the deteriorating of human rights in Iran

Today, Thursday, November 24, 2022, the 35th special meeting of the Human Rights Council was held regarding the deteriorating situation of human rights in Iran.
The request to hold this meeting was announced and supported by 50 countries.
Mr. Federico Villegas, President of the Human Rights Council, said in her opening speech about the holding of this meeting:
I hereby open the first session of the thirty-fifth special meeting of the Human Rights Council. As announced in the public consultation yesterday, the request to hold an extraordinary meeting of the Council regarding deterioration of the situation of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran, especially regarding women and children, was received on November 11, 2022.
The request contained in a letter from permanent representatives of Germany and Iceland supported by following members of the Council: Germany, Argentina, Czech Republic, USA. Finland, France, Japan, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Marshall Islands, Mexico, Montenegro, Netherlands, Paraguay, Republic of South Korea, Ukraine, United Kingdom.
The request also supported by the following observer countries: Albania, Andorra, Austria, Australia. Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Guatemala, Iceland, Israel, Ireland, Latvia, Lichtenstein, Malta, Monaco, New Zealand, North Macedonia, Norway, Romania, Peru, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Uruguay.
Based on Council Resolution 1/5, the secretariat communicated the request for a special meeting to all member states and provided information to specialized agencies and other intergovernmental organizations and national human rights institutions and non-governmental organizations with consultative status in ECOSOC based on the internal regulations of the councils.
