BANGLADESH: TWO TO BE HANGED FOR KILLING SHOP EMPLOYEE IN RAJSHAHI

A Rajshahi court on May 15, 2024 sentenced two persons to death for killing an employee of a mobile phone shop in the district in 2021.
Judge of Speedy Trial Tribunal Muhammad Mohiduzzaman handed down the verdict in presence of the convicts.
The court also sentenced another accused in the case to three years imprisonment.
The convicts are --Aminul Islam alias Shawn, 30, son of late Sanaullah, and Masud Rana, 26, son of Akmal Hossain, both of Kazipara village under Lalpur upazila in Natore district.
Mehedi Hassan Rockey, 25, son of Faruque Hossain of Jotchowki village under Bagha Upazila of the district, was sentenced to three years jail.
According to the prosecution, the victim Zahurul Islam, 23, son of Rafiqul Islam of Bagha Upazila, used to work as salesman in Telecom and Electronics at Panikumra Bazar owned by Mehedi Hassan Monir.
Aminul and Masud purchased three smart phones from Zahurul in debit for their use but didn't pay the money for long, creating an enmity between them.
On January 5, 2021, they took Zahurul to a nearby sugarcane field and hacked him to death. Locals found the blood-stained body and informed police the next day morning.
Elder brother of the victim filed a case with Bagha Police Station on the same day. After completion of investigation police pressed charges accusing the two persons.
