BANGLADESH: MAN SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR KILLING WIFE OVER DOWRY IN BOGRA

A man, who lived with two wives, was sentenced to death on 29 October 2020 after he beat his second wife to death over dowry in Bogra in 2016.
The judge of Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal 2, handed down the verdict while acquitting the man's first wife Jahanara Begum, who was also accused in the murder.
The convict Abdul Kuddus, 55, was present before the court while it’s judge Noor Md Shahriar sentenced him, confirmed special public prosecutor (PP) Ashekur Rahman Sujon.
Abdul Kuddus lived in his in-law's house in Singra of Natore since he married his first wife Jahanara. Soon after the marriage he had an extra-marital affair with his neighbour Madina Begum and eloped with her in 2012, said PP Sujon.
After his second marriage with Madina, he began living with both of his wives in Kahlu upazila, Bogra. He began torturing his second wife for dowry which continued for about four years.
On 20 July 2016, Madina was finally killed succumbing to the injuries caused by her husband's beating.
