BANGLADESH: FOUR GET DEATH FOR KILLING EASYBIKE DRIVER IN JAMALPUR

A court in Jamalpur on June 9, 2024 sentenced four people to death for the murder of an Easybike driver in the district's Sarishabari upazila.
The condemned convicts are Md Shohag, Md Moni Taheri alias Monir Hossain, Md Zakir Hossain, and Md Rubel Mia. Of them, Shohag and Zakir are on the run. 
Judge Md Anwar Sadat of Jamalpur Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-2 handed down the verdict on June 9.
The case documents said Laizu Mia, driver of a battery-run auto-rickshaw (locally known as Easybike), was strangulated to death and his vehicle was snatched in Mulbari area in the upazila on September 30, 2016.
Later, police arrested Rubel Mia and Md Moni Taheri in connection with the murder and they confessed to their crime in court.
Prosecution lawyer Shafiqul Islam Akkas said the court delivered in the case after taking the testimonies of 17 witnesses. 
Two accused were present on the dock during the pronouncement of the verdict and the remaining two are absconding, he added.
