BANGLADESH: 3 SENTENCED TO DEATH IN KHULNA VAN PULLER MURDER

A Khulna court on 29 October 2020 sentenced three people to death for killing a van puller in Khulna.
The verdict was handed down by Khulna District and Sessions Justice, Md Mashiur Rahman Chowdhury.
The convicts are - Md Rabiul Islam, Bani Amin Sheikh and Md Shahidul Islam who were present at the court during the announcement of the verdict.
The court also sentenced them to seven years' imprisonment as they tried to hide the body after murder. At the same time, each of them were fined Tk20,000. Under another provision, each of them were fined TK50,000.
According to court sources, the victim - Rickshaw puller Rashedul Islam Gazi, hailed from Joypur village of Batiaghata upazila in Khulna – left his home on 19 August last year and didn't return home.
Later, police recovered his decapitated body from a local garden the following day.
Regarding the incident, the deceased's father, Halim Gazi filed a case with Batiaghata Police Station.
After looking into the incident, the investigation officer pressed charges against the three convicts on 14 January.
On 29 October, Public prosecutor Enamul Haque represented the state at the court while Advocate Gazi Raju Ahmed and Advocate Monzil Hossain argued on behalf of the convicts.
