BANGLADESH: 3 SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR KILLING EASY-BIKE DRIVER

A court in Bangladesh on August 30, 2023 sentenced three people to death for killing an easybike driver in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga. At the same time, each of them was fined Tk 20,000, in default, they will have to serve another three years of rigorous imprisonment.
This verdict was handed down by Judge Mohammad Masud Ali of Chuadanga Additional District and Sessions Judge Second Court.
Those sentenced to death are Fazlur Rahman son of Abdus Salam of Hakpara of Chuadanga Municipal area, Abu Sufian Molla son of Shahidul Islam Molla of the same neighborhood and Shri Deepak Kumar Roy son of Shri Ganesh Chandra Roy of Gorasthanpara.
Among them, Fazlur Rahman is absconding even though the two accused were present in the court when the verdict was announced.
Meanwhile, the other two accused in the case Mohammad Dilon son of Yamin Ali of Farmpara of Chuadanga Municipal area and Anwar Hossain son of Yakub Ali of Jairampur village of Damurhuda Upazila have been acquitted.
It is known that on the afternoon of August 10, 2011, the locals informed the police after seeing the body of a man with his throat slit in the eggplant field on the Damurhuda Paranpur-Loknathpur road.
In this incident, the police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital morgue. Later, the investigation officer of the case ASI Nasir Uddin of Darshana Police filed a case accusing unknown persons as the plaintiff.
Later, the body was identified as that of Jahurul. The deceased Jahurul is a resident of Farmpara in the Chuadanga Municipal area. The accused took the easybike and fled away after killing Jahurul in a deserted field saying that he was going to rent an easybike.
SI Arifur Rahman of Darshana Police Station filed a charge sheet in court on November 30, 2011, accusing six people of being involved in the murder. The court gave this verdict after the testimony of 12 out of 30 witnesses.
