ALGERIA: COURT SENTENCES 14 AL-QAEDA SUSPECTS TO CAPITAL PUNISHMENT

An Algerian court has sentenced 14 suspects having linked to Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) to death penalty.
The criminal court in Bu Merdas, 50 km to the east of Algiers, convicted 14 suspects with terrorism and issued death penalty sentences for them in absentia.
It also sentenced several other terror suspects to prison terms ranging between three years and life.
The suspects were charged with committing several crimes, establishing terrorist groups, perpetrating murder, sabotage, intimidation and abduction, the court ruled.
The case dates back to 2012 when Algerian security forces seized a terror cell in Bu Merdas in possession of firearms and five mobile phones.
