A riot following a failed jailbreak by death row inmates at Narathiwat provincial prison left five inmates dead and two others severely injured. Two prison workers were also seriously injured. Prison officials said the violence broke out as 21 death row prisoners were about to be taken to Bangkok to await execution.(Sources: Bangkok Post, 13/12/2001)
