07 November 2001 :

A cabinet screening committee approved a draft bill to change the method of capital punishment from firing squad to lethal injection.
The draft bill is a combination of drafts submitted for consideration by the Attorney-General's Office and the Interior Ministry.
The submissions were merged into one by the Council of State and will be forwarded to cabinet for approval before going to the House of Representatives.
The death sentence and life imprisonment will no longer apply for convicts aged under 18 years, but will instead be replaced with a 50-year jail term.
