15 January 2010 :
Gerald Bordelon was executed at the Louisiana State Penitentiary. Bordelon, 47, white, a convicted sex offender, was sentenced to death after he confessed to raping and strangling his 12-year-old stepdaughter Courtney LeBlanc, white, whom he kidnapped on Nov. 15, 2002. It was Louisiana's 1st execution since 2002. Bordelon asked to waive his appeal. He said he would "commit the same crime again if ever given the chance". According to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, roughly 12% of defendants waive appellate review. Bordelon becomes the 28th condemned inmate to be put to death in Louisiana since the state resumed capital punishment in 1983, the 3rd condemned inmate to be put to death this year in the USA and the 1191st overall since the nation resumed executions on January 17, 1977.(sources: WWL TV News, Associated Press & Rick Halperin, 07/01/2010)
