30 November 2021 :

A court on 28 November 2021 sentenced a young man to death by hanging for raping 8-year-old girl in Nyala, South Darfur.
The special court for cases registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences, directed submission of the papers to the Supreme Court to uphold the ruling.
The offender took advantage of the kinship relationship that he had with the victim’s father to commit a crime without taking into account the relationship of kinship as the girl’s uncle.

12 September 2021 :

Six members of a Sudanese paramilitary force were sentenced to death on 5 August 2021 by a court in the central city of Al-Obeid for the deaths of six protesters in 2019, including four school children.
The trial, broadcast on Sudanese television, concerns events that took place during a mass protest in July 2019 against gasoline and bread shortages in Al-Obeid in the North Kordofan region.
The deaths of the protesters had raised a wave of anger in Sudan, and in August 2019, authorities arrested nine paramilitaries from the powerful Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in connection with the violence.
On 5 August, Judge Mohamed Rahma sentenced six of the defendants to death and acquitted two others. The ninth, under the age of 18, was referred to a juvenile court.
During the trial, the judge said that the actions of the paramilitaries had been "unnecessary" and "out of proportion" to the alleged verbal provocations of the protesters.

06 July 2021 :

The Special Court convened to try the perpetrators of crimes related to the Sudanese revolution on 27 June 2021 sentenced a former member of the defunct National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) to death by hanging, for the murder of Hassan Mohammed Omar during a mass protest in Khartoum on 25 December 2018.
At the Institute of Judicial Sciences in Khartoum on 27 June, the Special Court presided over by Appeal Court Judge El Sadig Abkar Adam, convicted Ashraf El Tayyib (known as Abgaika) of premeditated murder and crimes against humanity under articles No 130 and 186 of the Criminal Law.
Doctors from Khartoum who treated demonstrators at the time, confirmed to Radio Dabanga that at the march organised by the Sudan Professionals Association in Khartoum on 25 December 2018 protest, the security forces were “shooting to kill”.
This is the first conviction under these articles to be passed down by the court, which was convened to address crimes committed during the mass popular uprising that culminated in the overthrow by military coup of the 30-year dictatorship of Omar Al Bashir.
The court also upheld the request by the victim’s family for retribution, provided that the case is submitted to the Supreme Court after the appeal period has elapsed.
The verdict was met with relief by the victim’s family and supporters, who gathered outside the courtroom chanting demands for a speedy execution of the sentence.
From mid-December 2018, Sudan experienced a popular uprising called-out by the Sudanese Professionals Association and signatories to the Declaration of Freedom and Change, calling for the overthrow of the regime. Demonstrations were met with violent resistance from the government, however the sheer volume of public support resulted in the uprising reaching critical mass. On 11 April, the 30-year dictatorship of Omar Al Bashir was overthrown by a military coup.

25 May 2021 :

A Sudanese court sentenced to death on 24 May 2021 a paramilitary officer charged with killing a demonstrator during a deadly breakup of a protest camp in the capital, Khartoum, two years ago.
The court ruled that the officer, Youssef Mohieldin al-Fiky, a major with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, rammed a protester with his car as security forces were dispersing a sit-in outside the military headquarters in June 2019.
The protester, Hanafy Abdel-Shakour, was one of over 120 people killed during the brutal crackdown on demonstrators in Khartoum and elsewhere in Sudan that June. It followed two months after the military ousted then-President Omar al-Bashir amid a public uprising against his nearly three-decade autocratic rule.
Al-Fiky rammed his car into 22-year-old Abdel-Shakour, in Omdurman, a city adjacent to Khartoum, according to the state-run SUNA news agency.
The report said the trial had started more than a year later, in July 2020, in Khartoum’s Judicial and Legal Science Institute.
Judges held 26 hearings before their ruling on 24 May. The verdict can be appealed before a higher court.
According to videos distributed on social media, dozens of people outside the courthouse cheered the court ruling. Abdel-Shakour’s family were also seen hugging each other and praying.
Since al-Bashir’s ouster, Sudan has since been on a fragile path to democracy and is ruled by a joint military-civilian government.
The 2019 breakup of the sit-in camp was a turning point in what had until then been relations between the military and the protesters.
Protesters had called for an international probe into the breakup, but an African Union-brokered agreement in August 2019 between the generals and the protesters said a local commission would investigate. The panel, however, repeatedly missed its deadlines for reporting, angering the victims’ families and protest groups.
Protesters accused the paramilitary force of leading the crackdown. The force grew out of the notorious janjaweed militias implicated in the Darfur conflict, and is now part of the military.
A military-backed prosecutor said in 2019 that eight officers, including a major general, were charged with crimes against humanity in the crackdown. But there has been no word since of any being tried or detained.

11 February 2021 :

A 39-year-old South Sudanese woman in Khartoum was hanged on 9 February 2021 after being sentenced to death for killing her little sister in Sudan three years ago.
In 2019, the court found Eliza Aban Othu guilty of murdering Teresa Aban Othu in 2018.
Eliza is said to have quarreled with Teresa over an issue involving their children at Haj Yousef the same year.
A fight ensued, leaving Teresa dead. She broke her neck, the court heard.
“A judge ruled that the only son of the late Teresa Aban Othu, who is aged 18, had to advise on whether his aunt should be hanged or offered clemency,” said Achol Malong Deng, human rights activist based in Khartoum.
“But the boy said that the children of his aunt must also be orphaned. So the court took the decision to hang Eliza on 8 February.”
Ms Malong added that Teresa was hanged on 9 February, leaving behind her two sons.
There are hundreds of South Sudanese in various prisons in Sudan, according to reports. Most of them were convicted on charges related to murder and theft.
In 2020, the Sudanese government pardoned twenty-five death row inmates of South Sudan descent.Some were charged with treason, terrorism and crimes against the state – all crimes committed before the separation of the two countries.
