Tran van Giao was sentenced to death by firing squad for defrauding investors out of 1.6 million dollars. Giao, the director of a privately-owned construction company, was sentenced to death by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court, Vietnam's ruling Communist Party's Nhan Dan newspaper said. His deputy, Nguyen van Trung, was given a 12-year jail sentence.(Sources: Agence France Presse, 31/07/2004)
