Tran Hong Truong, a Vietnamese prisoner who was had been jailed for robbery, was sentenced to death for murdering another prison inmate. The Hanoi People's Court found Truong, 24, guilty of beating to death Nguyen Minh Chien when they were being held in Hanoi detention centre in July 2003. His accomplice, Nguyen Anh Tu was also jailed for life for torturing and beating Chien to death shortly after he was imprisoned.
