a court in northern Vietnam sentenced three people to death for drug trafficking, with a police officer getting a life sentence. A total of 50 people were tried before the Ha Giang provincial court, accused of participating in the smuggling of around 840 kilograms of heroin and 70 handguns to provinces bordering China. The court sentenced three defendants, described in state media as drug bosses, to death. A police officer accused of offering bribes worth USD 10,000 to investigators so that they would turn a blind eye received a life sentence, along with five other defendants. The rest received jail terms ranging from three to 20 years.
