The Ho Chi Minh City People's Court, Vietnam, handed down two death sentences to Nguyen Chi Dung, the head of an armed gang that preyed on goods trucks and vehicles in the southern Mekong Delta region. He was also found guilty of raping a 12-year-old girl in 2001. His lieutenant Pham Van Dinh was handed two death sentences on identical charges.(Sources: Agence France Presse, 01/03/2004)
