The "Campaign Against the Death Penalty" had also intervened on behalf of a condemned prisoner, L. Govindasamy, in the Coimbatore Central Prison, who was to have been executed on November 9, Mr Lakshminarayanan and Mr Kannabiran pointed out. Govindaswamy, a resident of Veerapalayam village in Tamil Nadu, is due to be hanged at the Coimbatore jail, for hacking to death five relatives in a property dispute. With the Supreme Court having confirmed his death penalty and the President having rejected his clemency petition, Govindaswamy is set to die a lonely death, unsung and unprotested. No political party or leader will plead his case seeking clemency.
