31 March 2026 :
The Court of Appeal of Tanzania on March 26, 2026 upheld the death sentence for Mulabu Muya (also reported as Mulaby Muya), found guilty of a particularly brutal murder committed in 2022.
Muya was convicted for the murder of Nyabise Webiro, which took place on September 25, 2022, in Nyegina village, Musoma District (Mara region).
The victim was found in a pool of blood with severe mutilations to the private parts, which had been removed by the killer.
The Court based the confirmation of the sentence on a detailed confession Muya gave to the police. The judges ruled that the confession was so precise (including details on the planning, the weapon used, and specific injuries) that only the actual perpetrator could have provided it.
Another man, Mgwasi Wapori, was initially convicted alongside Muya, but the Court of Appeal acquitted him due to insufficient evidence.
