St. Charles County Circuit Judge Lucy Rauch followed the Feb. 6 jury's recommendation to sentence Kenneth Baumruk, 67, to death. They found him guilty of 1st-degree murder after a trial in January and February. Baumruk killed his wife and shot 4 others at the St. Louis County Courthouse during his divorce hearing in May 1992. For years after the shootings, Baumruk was found incompetent to stand trial. He was eventually found competent, and after a murder trial in St. Louis County in 2001, he was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to death. But the Missouri Supreme Court granted him a new trial, saying that the trial should not have taken place where the crime was committed. For several years after that, he was found mentally unfit to stand trial.(Sources: St. Louis Post-Dispatch, 19/03/2007)
