08 October 1999 :

On October 8, the Supreme Court rejected the petitions filed by Nalini, her husband Murugan, Suthenthiraja and Perarivalan alias Arivu seeking review of the verdict, by a 2:1 majority. Justice K.T. Thomas, said Nalini's death penalty deserved to be commuted to life imprisonment. Earlier, in its May 11 judgment confirming the death sentence, Justice Thomas was the lone voice which advocated life imprisonment for Nalini on the grounds that she was a mother with a small child. But Justice S. S. M. Quadri did not agree with him and said if the death sentence was not awarded to Nalini, who was a willing participant in the conspiracy to kill a "bright leader" of the country, then justice would be stunted.
