04 April 1999 :

On April 4, Radical Sikh organizations, reactivated ever since the Badal-Tohra spilled out in the open, demanded that the 1,000-odd Sikh Tada detainees jailed in the Punjab and elsewhere be released in view of the Khalsa tercentenary celebration. Demanding compensation for families of the "victims of state repression" and others who lost their kin during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, they also urged Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to get the human rights activists booked under "false" charges, released. The Chief Minister was also urged to explore ways to abolish the death penalty in the year of the tercentenary.
