On April 14, intellectuals, students and journalists in a meeting convened at Pethiagachi condemned the rape of a teenage girl at Bokaro and demanded that a special court be set up to try the criminals who perpetrated the heinous crime. Speaking in favor of capital punishment for the rapists who almost killed the girl, they urged the Rabri Devi Government to come to the rescue of the girl's family. The district general secretary of the Mahila Morcha Vimla Singh and the BJYM leader Shashikant Anand while condemning the rape of the girl and other incidents of atrocities against women, said the state was no longer safe for them.
