a court in Pakistan issued the death sentence on two counts to Ghualm Sarwar for shooting dead a provincial minister last month. Zill-e-Huma, a social welfare minister in Punjab and an active member of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League, was killed in the town of Gujranwala on February 20. Ms Huma was meeting Muslim League Party activists and supporters when Sarwar shot her in the head. According to the police, Sarwar said that women occupying senior positions was against the rule of Allah. The court also imposed a fine of two million rupees with a three year jail sentence if he failed to pay.(Sources: Islamic Republic News Agency, 21/03/2007)
