A 38-year-old resident of Mohammadali Chowk in Kapadvanj (Gujarat), Mustakim Bhathiara, was executed in Kuwait on April 28, 2025 after being convicted in a 2019 murder case.
His body arrived in Ahmedabad and was taken to Kapadvanj, where he was buried on April 30 in accordance with Islamic rituals.
Mustakim worked as a cook in the Gulf for over a decade. He began his overseas employment in Dubai, worked in Bahrain, and had been working in Kuwait for the past seven years. A couple from Banswara, Rajasthan, took him to Kuwait for a job at the residence of one Rehana Khan and Mustufa Khan. He lived and worked there until a dispute arose four years ago. According to reports, Mustakim had a disagreement with his employer, which escalated into a violent confrontation leading to Mustakim stabbing Rehana Khan to death.
Mustakim was accused of murder by the employer's family and was arrested by Kuwaiti authorities. In 2021, he was convicted and sentenced to death. He was executed on April 28. His family members in Kapadvanj were informed of his execution by the Indian embassy.
