Iranian actress Marzieh Vafamehr

Iranian actress Marzieh Vafamehr was sentenced to one year in prison and 90 lashes for her starring role in "My Teheran for Sale", a film about the difficulty faced by artists in the Islamic Republic. The news was announced by opposition website Kalame.com. Marzieh Vafamehr, wife of the director and screenwriter Nasser Taghvai, was arrested in July after appearing in the film that was heavily criticised by conservative Iranian elements. According to the FARS press agency, the film did not receive authorisation to be shown in Iran and was distributed illegally. The actress was released at the end of July after receiving the corporal punishment and after having paid an unspecified amount for bail.
