IRAN - Since 26 February, Iranian exile NGOs have ceased to receive information regarding executions

IRAN - Varie

31 March 2026 :

March 31, 2026 - IRAN. Since 26 February, Iranian exile NGOs have ceased to receive information regarding executions, with the exception of five executions reported by Iranian state media concerning men accused of ‘political’ offences. Between 1 January and 26 February, Iran had already hanged 632 people, almost all for ‘common’ crimes such as murder and drug trafficking.

For the NGOs, which are obviously based abroad, it is becoming very difficult to obtain information, given that the internet is blocked throughout Iran, and by using Chinese and, to some extent, Russian consultants and technology, the authorities are able to track down anyone who manages to connect with the outside world, particularly via the Starlink satellite internet system. Hundreds of people have already been arrested on charges of ‘possession of a Starlink router’, and owning such a device is now equated with ‘espionage’.
