February 13, 2026 - IRAN. Nima Jafari killed under torture after arrest in Bandar Abbas
Nima Jafari, a 22-year-old Kurdish man, was killed under torture following his arrest by Iranian intelligence agents in Bandar Abbas.
Based on information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Jafari, from the village of Sartang in Eyvan-e Gharb (Eyvan), Ilam Province, was arrested on February 6, 2026, by agents of the Intelligence Department in Bandar Abbas. After several days in custody at a detention facility operated by the forces, he was killed under severe torture. His body was later transferred to his hometown of Eyvan under the supervision of Intelligence Department vehicles.
A source close to the family told Hengaw that officials from the Intelligence Department in Bandar Abbas contacted the family and instructed them to travel there to collect their son’s body. Authorities claimed that Nima had “committed suicide.”
Hengaw has learned that, after legal procedures were completed in Bandar Abbas, Jafari’s body was handed over to his family on February 12, 2026. He is scheduled to be buried on Friday, February 13, 2026, in Eyvan-e Gharb. Security forces placed the transfer of his body from Bandar Abbas to Eyvan under strict surveillance.
Sources emphasized that the family has been seriously threatened against speaking publicly about what they describe as a state killing. They were warned that if they speak publicly about the cause of death, they must describe it as a suicide.
Jafari had previously spent two years in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq as a member of Komala Party of Kurdistan. He left the party prior to the “Women, Life, Freedom” (Jin, Jiyan, Azadi) movement and returned to his hometown. After returning to Iran, he became active during the movement and was arrested and interrogated in connection with his activities.
Like many other Kurdish residents of Ilam Province facing limited employment opportunities, he had moved to Bandar Abbas for work and was employed as a laborer at Shahid Rajaee Port.
According to data documented by the Statistics Center of Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Nima Jafari is the second Kurdish detainee to die under torture since the beginning of the protests in Iran. The first was Soran Feyzizadeh from Saqqez, who died from injuries sustained under torture while in custody during protests in Bijar.
