March 1, 2026 - IRAN. Mohammad Nourani Gargari executed in Ardabil on March 1

According to information IHR obtained on April 15, a man was executed in Ardabil Central Prison on 1 March 2026. His identity has been established as Mahmoud Nourani Gargari, a 31-year-old father to a young child. The Ardabil native was arrested around three years ago and sentenced for murder.

On the same day, a woman named Mona Shojaei, who had been imprisoned for nine years for the murder of her husband, was saved from the gallows after securing the consent of the victim’s family (next of kin).

Informed sources told IHR: "Mona Shojaei, who was only 21 years of age at the time of her arrest, succeeded in obtaining the consent of the plaintiffs by paying 4 billion tomans as diya (blood money)."

Despite more than a month passing, Mahmoud’s execution has not been reported by domestic media in Iran.
